TWO TECHNIQUES

Choosing the right brow style

The technique/s Ally recommends depends on your skin type, the look you want to achieve, and the condition of your existing brows. Powder brow, combination, nano, ombré and many more styles are available at SEPEMA — and all produce beautiful, natural-looking results when matched correctly to the client.

Longevity & touch-ups

Regardless of technique used, the results are semi-permanent and fade gradually over time. Powder and combination brows typically last one to three years; nano hair strokes one to two years, with longevity influenced by skin type, sun exposure, and skincare habits.

Annual touch-up appointments keep results looking intentional and fresh, and allow for any adjustments to shape or depth as your preferences evolve. Avoiding active skincare ingredients (retinoids, AHAs) directly on the brows and applying SPF around the brow area will significantly extend the life of your result.

common questions

Brow Tattooing FAQs

  • The recommendation depends primarily on your skin type and the look you want as well as whether or not you've had tattooing previously. Oily or combination skin suits powder or combination brow best — hair strokes on oilier skin can soften and blur as they heal. Normal to dry skin with existing brow hair to work with is the ideal candidate for nano strokes. If you're unsure, that's exactly what the free consultation is for — Ally will assess your skin and make a clear recommendation before anything is booked.

  • The $795 package covers your initial appointment and your 4–6 week perfecting touch-up regardless of technique — because the outcome matters more than which method gets you there. Ally will recommend the technique that's right for your skin, not the one that fits a price bracket.

  • Microblading uses a manual blade to cut pigment into the skin — more aggressive, more trauma, faster fading, and higher risk of scarring over repeated sessions. Nano brow uses a single needle on a digital machine, allowing finer, more precise strokes at a controlled depth. It's gentler, heals more predictably, and produces cleaner, longer-lasting results. SEPEMA does not offer microblading — only the more refined nano technique.

  • The ghosting phase is most common with nano hair strokes but happens in varying levels with most cosmetic tattooing — around weeks two to three of healing, the brows can appear very light or almost invisible as the outer layer of skin finishes healing and temporarily obscures the pigment below. It's completely normal and the colour resurfaces within a week or two. The 4–6 week touch-up exists partly for this reason — the final result is always assessed and refined at that appointment rather than immediately after the initial session.

  • Often yes — powder brow in particular is effective for building over or refreshing faded previous brow work. The suitability depends on how much pigment remains, the shape of the existing tattoo, and whether the colour has shifted. Where previous work is too dark, the wrong shape, or has changed significantly in tone, some removal may be recommended first. Ally will assess this honestly at consultation and won't proceed if a great result isn't achievable.

  • Topical anaesthetic is applied before and throughout. The brow area responds well to numbing and most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching at most. Ally's technique is designed to achieve thorough results while minimising discomfort and unnecessary skin trauma. Most clients even have a little snooze during their treatment.

  • Powder and combination brows typically last one to three years. Nano hair strokes typically last one to two years. Longevity depends on skin type, sun exposure, and skincare habits — oilier skin and active use of retinoids or AHAs around the brow area tend to cause faster fading. Annual refresh appointments keep the result looking intentional without needing a full initial treatment again.
