Lip Blush

A soft, natural flush of colour, definition and symmetry — custom-blended to achieve the perfect hue.

Lip blush is a cosmetic tattooing technique that deposits microscopic pigment particles into the lips to restore colour, define borders, correct asymmetry, and create the appearance of natural, healthy vitality.

The result is not a lipstick — it's your lips, at their best.

THE TREATMENT

Lip blush is a form of cosmetic tattooing that places pigment just below the surface of the lip skin, creating a soft, diffused wash of colour that enhances natural lip tone and shape. Unlike traditional lip tattoos, lip blush is designed to be sheer, graduated, and entirely wearable — even without makeup.

At SEPEMA, every lip treatment begins with detailed symmetry mapping and a custom pigment blend matched to your skin's undertone, lip tone, and personal preference. The goal is always the same: lips that look like yours — just more defined, more even, and more alive.

Lip blush also encompasses lip line tattooing for added definition, lipstick tattooing for a more saturated finish, and melanin neutralisation — a specialised technique for clients with naturally darker or uneven lip pigmentation who want a warm, uniform base before adding colour.

Ally's technique is known for producing no swelling, no peeling, and minimal to no discomfort — a result of both her approach to pigment depth and her aftercare protocols.

What is Lip Blush?

Is this treatment right for me?

Who is lip blushing suited to?

FADED OR UNEVEN LIP COLOUR
If your lips have lost pigment or appear uneven in tone, lip blush restores warmth and uniformity without looking artificial.
Melanin neutralisation is a specialised first step that brightens and warms naturally dark lip pigmentation before adding colour.
DARK OR COOL-TONED LIPS
LOSS OF DEFINITION WITH AGE
Lip borders soften over time. Lip blush recreates crisp, natural definition and the appearance of fuller, more youthful lips.
POST-SURGICAL LIP RESTORATION
Lip blush and lip line tattooing can be used to restore the natural silhouette of the cupid's bow following cleft lip surgery or facial trauma.
LIP ASYMMETRY
Subtle asymmetry is common. Through careful mapping and pigment placement, lip blush can visually balance the lip shape.
LIFESTYLE CONVENIENCE
For those who want the look of colour and definition without daily makeup application — through exercise, swimming, or long days.

Longevity & touch-ups

Lip blush is a semi-permanent treatment. Pigment is formulated to fade gradually over time, giving you the flexibility to adjust colour and shape as your preferences evolve. Most clients see their results last between one and three years before a refresh is needed.

Longevity is influenced by several factors: sun exposure, skincare products used on and around the lips, individual skin type, and how faithfully aftercare is followed in the first weeks. Clients who use SPF and avoid exfoliants directly on the lip border will consistently see longer-lasting results.

common questions

Lip Blush FAQs

  • Topical anaesthetic is applied before and during the treatment to ensure comfort. Most clients are pleasantly surprised — the lips are well-numbed and the treatment is generally described as comfortable or mildly uncomfortable at most. Ally's technique is specifically designed to work at a depth that produces results without unnecessary trauma to the tissue, which means minimal swelling and very little recovery time.

  • Natural results are the foundation of everything at SEPEMA. Lip blush is designed to look like your lips — just more defined, more even, and with a healthy flush of colour. Pigment is custom-blended for your individual skin tone and undertone. The healed result softens by 40–70% from the initial application, settling into a soft, translucent tint that sits just below the surface. The goal is always for people to say "you look great" — not "did you get something done?"

  • Most clients achieve their ideal result across two sessions — the initial treatment and the 6–8 week touch-up. The touch-up is recommended for all clients as it allows Ally to assess the healed result and refine colour, saturation, and shape accordingly. Clients requiring neutralisation or reconstruction may need an additional session. This is always discussed openly at consultation.

  • Melanin neutralisation is a specialised colour-theory technique used for clients with naturally darker or uneven lip pigmentation — particularly where cool or blue tones are present. Warm corrective pigments are applied first to neutralise the underlying tone, creating a uniform base before the target colour is added. Results develop over 8–12 weeks as any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation settles. This is a normal part of the process and is discussed thoroughly at consultation.

  • Lip blush typically lasts between one and three years. Longevity depends on your skin type, sun exposure, skincare routine, and how well aftercare is followed in the healing period. Oilier skin types may fade faster. Using SPF on and around the lips and avoiding exfoliating products at the lip border will extend your result significantly.

  • Full written aftercare instructions are provided at your appointment. The key principles: apply the provided healing balm as directed, avoid picking or peeling any dry skin, avoid swimming, saunas, and direct sun for the first two weeks, and avoid lipstick and lip products until fully healed. Ally is always available between appointments if you have questions about your healing.

  • Most healthy adults are suitable candidates for lip blush. There are some contraindications — including active cold sores, certain medications, and autoimmune conditions — which are assessed thoroughly at consultation. If you have a history of cold sores, you will be asked to take antiviral medication prior to your appointment as a precaution. The consultation is the right time to discuss your full health history so Ally can advise accordingly.
