THE TREATMENT
Stretch marks — or striae — develop when the dermis is stretched rapidly, causing collagen and elastin fibres to rupture and leave behind characteristic lines of disrupted tissue. Fresh marks are often red or purple; mature marks typically appear as lighter, indented lines that are smoother in texture than the surrounding skin.
Medical needling addresses stretch marks by creating controlled micro-channels in the dermal layer using a tattoo machine fitted with needle cartridges selected for the tissue type and depth of the mark. This triggers the body's wound-healing cascade — producing fresh Type III collagen and elastin to fill and remodel the disrupted tissue from within.
This is a different modality to skin rejuvenation needling. The device, needle depth, and technique are specifically suited to the structural demands of stretch mark tissue — it is not the same as superficial microneedling treatments used for general skin texture. The treatment requires no topical anaesthetic, as healthy blood flow to the area is essential to the healing response.
Where clinically appropriate, a deep sea peel protocol may be incorporated — particularly when the client's system is overstimulated, or where surface texture rather than structural depth is the primary concern for that session. What medical needling can achieve is a meaningful reduction in visibility and texture — particularly the indented, rough quality of mature marks.
